THE FUNRAI$ER
By Dazzle & Razzle
Created and performed by Dave Houston & Raji Renshaw

Picture

"The human race has only one really effective weapon, and that is laughter." – Mark Twain
“Dazzle and Razzle are that weapon, and they have strapped themselves together and then to a rocket,
ignored the  disability safety instructions and now have absolutely no fucking off switch.”  Australian Federal Police.

THE FUNRAI$ER

Built around a completely handmade set created from Who Gives A Crap toilet-paper boxes and packaging, the show mixes punk rock, right- and left-handed guitars, clown, slapstick, impro, and full dodgy fundraising methods.

During the madness the classic straight man comic man formula threatens to tear the show apart, as Dazzle wants to create his high class puppet theatre work about a ghost who is so scary he has no friends and Razzle is writing his feature film about a time-travelling Down Syndrome doctor.

Somewhere between Bollywood, a lonely depressed ghost and a Down syndrome time-travelling doctor, the whole thing turns upside down. It’s no longer about a dodgy regional financially challenged uncle and nephew — it’s about a father and son, and the love they have for each other.

Highlights video coming real soon. Yeah right...so's Christmas Dazzle

SYNOPSIS

Seventeen-year-old actor Razzle has a dream to make a film and take it to Hollywood. However, as he has Down syndrome, he is sometimes hard to understand, and his partially deaf 56-year-old Uncle Dazzle wants to help him, passionately declaring:

“Nephew, we are going to Bollywood.”

And from that moment on, the plan is fucked.

Despite both their disabilities, they can’t get any disability film funding, so Uncle Dazzle decides to take matters into his own hands. They begin travelling far and wide across regional Australia, helping ordinary Australians raise money for worthy causes. Be it bushfire recovery, funds for drought-stricken farmers, new ramps for disabled people, more powerful e-batteries for struggling inner-city families under cost of living pressure, or a new prostate for Grandpa.

Dazzle and Razzle will get you the cash. They are masters of funrai$ing.
All they ask in return is just a little bit of petrol money to cover costs.
It’s not their fault that, as the crow flies, Bollywood is 10,160 kilometres from Bellingen, NSW.

ABOUT THE CREATORS

Picture
Raji Renshaw and Dave Houston are an intergenerational comedy duo from regional NSW, both identifying as disabled artists. One with an obvious disability, one with a hidden disability, one 17 and one 56.

In the classic mismatched comedy-duo tradition, they experience the world very differently — so be prepared to rock out to right- and left-handed guitar punk comedy songs, take shelter from toilet-paper rolls travelling at very high speeds, and accept the very real possibility that the show may not actually make it to the end.
