STRONG MOB is an all day event. A theatre show followed by a Kultcha Program focused on Yurribul Gulli Merringingi - a bundjalung phrase meaning 'to turn one's spirit around."
STRONG MOB creates a safe, culturally grounded space for black and white folk, where theatre, story, and ceremony help people face trauma and healing. Guided by Indigenous leadership, the project fosters cultural pride, resilience, and connection—turning pain into strength and opening pathways from victim to survivor to contributor in life. As the NAIDOC '25 theme was for the next generation with Strength, vision and legacy we trust this project will grow on that mission.
An afternoon and evening of Ceremony, a Bundjalung art exhibition, arts and cultural workshops, dance, food, yarning around the fire, and talks on trauma recovery, hope, and love.

SYNOPSIS
STRONG MOB follows Dotty, a single Blak mother holding it together for her teenage son Sammie and her brother Dougie. What no one knows is that Dotty’s cancer has spread — and she’s keeping it a secret. Dougie is a hustling painter who busks to survive and dodge responsibility. Sammie’s angry and adrift, caught between frustration with his Uncle and a deep longing for cultural connection. Dougie’s cheeky and chaotic, stuck in a loop of escape and addiction. Meanwhile, Graham — a white Rio Tinto executive sent to Byron for anger management — carries trauma of his own: a deep lie. When he crosses paths with Dougie, their worlds collide. As each character wrestles with truth and healing, unexpected bonds form — and a story of pain, humour, and resilience unfolds.
